Passing of a Friend and Member of Empire State -- Robert Townsend

It is again with deep sorrow that I must notify you of the passing of a friend and longtime member of The Empire State Chapter of FMCA


Robert Townsend

Scotia - Robert Townsend, 86, of Scotia, passed away on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
He was born February 7, 1932 in Portland, ME. He was the son of the late Nathaniel and Marion (Emery) Townsend.
He graduated from McKinley Junior High School and Mont Pleasant High School in 1950. Robert graduated later from the Wentworth Institute in 1952 and also attended Union College and Schenectady County Community College.
Robert was employed for the General Electric Company starting in 1952 and he retired February 1992. He was employed in the Large Steam Turbine Generator Department of Application Engineering.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, the GE Elfun Society and also was active in the Tape Deck repair group of the Elfun Society.
Robert was a member of the Scotia Glenville Lions Club, the Good Sams, the Sippin Sams Chapter of the Good Sams, the Family Motor Coach Association, the Escapees RV Club and the Empire Chapter of the FMCA. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady.
Robert is predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Kelly Townsend; and one brother, John Townsend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Cooper) Townsend, whom he married September 24, 1955; one sister, Edith Wojnarowski; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Wednesday evening, June 13th at 7 p.m. at the Holiday at the Atrium, 2 Tryon Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
